Yes. The Free plan is free forever — no trial period, no credit card required. You get 3 novels, 200,000 words each, context-aware synonyms, and all core writing features at no cost. We only ask you to upgrade if you want unlimited novels or the full AI writing assistant.
By default, Inkwell uses Claude (Anthropic) for AI features. On the Pro plan you can also connect your own OpenRouter API key to use models like GPT-4o, Mistral, Llama 3, and more. You stay in control of which model powers your writing.
Yes — on the Pro plan you can provide your own OpenRouter key in the AI settings panel. This lets you use any model available on OpenRouter at cost price, with no Inkwell markup. The context-aware synonyms on the Free plan use our shared quota.
Your manuscripts are stored in our secure database (Supabase, hosted on AWS) and are only accessible to you. We never read your writing or use it to train AI models. AI requests are sent to the provider (Anthropic or OpenRouter) solely to generate your response and are not retained.
Absolutely. There are no long-term contracts. Cancel your Pro subscription at any time and you will not be charged again. Your account reverts to the Free plan at the end of the billing period and your novels remain intact.
All your novels stay in your account. If you have more than 3 novels when you downgrade, the extra novels become read-only until you either delete some novels to get back under the limit or resubscribe to Pro. Your writing is never deleted.
